WinPatrol Cloud Edition Public Beta

cloud1

WinPatrol Adds the Newest Technology Available.

You’ll now have access the knowledge of thousands of WinPatrol users shared in real-time within the new WinPatrol Cloud.  You’re not working alone anymore when you have to decide on keeping or dumping a file found on your system.

The new WinPatrol Cloud Edition allows collaborate and share feedback on both legitimate and malicious files found on their system. When requesting PLUS Info users will have even more information to base their decisions on.  Even WinPatrol Free users can participate and will benefit from the over one million WinPatrol users. While WinPatrol is over 11 years old, the new Cloud Edition adds the newest technology available to already proven, popular software.

Additional Changes

  • * Fixed bug monitoring DWORD registry types
    * Fixed bug in changing Service status.
    * Quicker Detection of real-time changes.

This is still a beta and only the beginning.  As more shared data becomes available and beta testing continues the results will be the most stable, powerful version of WinPatrol in years.

Bill, thanks for everything you do! As you know, I've gave you a donation (HOPE EVERYONE READING THIS DOES TOO!) and I've upgraded to the WP Cloud Edition today too. I've used WinPatrol for so long I can't remember when I first learned of it, but it has saved my butt too many time to count!

Bill, I like the idea of the new Cloud Edition. I'm using the beta but feel that there should be clearer ways of classifying safe files.

Currently we have:
> I believe this file to be safe and required.
> I believe this file to be safe but not necessary.

I'd like to see some way of designating a file that may not be essential to the running of Windows but IS essential to the running of an installed application.

'Not necessary' implies that it may be removed with impunity; inexperienced users may find oft-used applications failing if they disable or remove the file.

Otherwise nice idea, smooth implementation.

In response to some questions...

Thanks to everyone for their support and feedback!

"Currently" there are two parts to the first version of WinPatrol Cloud Edition. The focus of what's new is in response to users wanting to know before making a decision on how important a file is. The Cloud data is an addition to what we now provide, some of which could be obtained via an intelligent web search.

There are two parts to the new cloud data. One part is a poll which I've designed to be helpful and will be available to both Free and PLUS users. Those of you who have been around a while will note it's also designed to prevent cease and desist letters in my mailbox.
As time goes by I expect the numbers represented in this poll will be useful. It was important to me that users of the free version get something free and useful.

Part Two is real-time, automated and is based on actions taken by WinPatrol free and PLUS users. At this time you'll see the frequency of requests for info which was a no brainer. Don't be surprised if someday you see this data as a graph.
You'll also find WinPatrol keeping track of how users handle their own decision in real-time. Think of it as WinPatrol's version of Millionaire's "Ask the Audience" benefit. Again as we collect more data this will represent information which can be used to make useful decisions.
In the future you can expect to see more than just a users choice. WinPatrol also reports certain behavior taken by a program when it's newly detected.
Part two information is a bonus only available to PLUS users.

I'm glad many took advantage of the 99 cent experiment but I don't expect another one in the near future. I hope today's $9.95 special will help folks on a budget who still want the full version.

There is no additional cost for the new Cloud Edition. If you're already a PLUS member your code will continue to work. While it may not have been the best business plan, when I said Lifetime, I meant lifetime.

Thanks,
Bill

Do we uninstall WinPatrol Plus and install the Cloud beta, or run both together?

I'd like to participate in testing the beta version of Winpatrol Cloud Edition, but I'm worried about loosing access to the trusty Winpatrol Plus. Can I roll back to Winpatrol Plus if I'm not happy with Cloud Edition?
